Spring has sprung and it’s time to take advantage of the warmer temperatures. We’re sharing our top five gardening tips for a vibrant and healthy spring garden.
Tip 1: When you are planning out your spring garden, the layout and position of plants can get tricky. Use a long-handled tool as a measuring stick. This way, you are only using your shovel rather than having to coordinate a measuring tape while planting and planning.
Tip 2: Container gardens are a big trend for 2015. If you are considering one, we suggest lining your gardening pots with coffee filters. This prevents dirt from escaping through the drainage holes, and keeps the nutrients inside the pot.
Tip 3: Don’t let weeds get in the way of your spring garden. Use a natural homemade weed killer, such as vinegar, to kill the weeds without harming your kids or pets. Dousing weeds with vinegar will kill them in a matter of days, making it much easier to remove them from the soil.
Tip 4: If you’re lucky enough to have fruit trees in your backyard, make sure to prune them in early spring. As a result, the trees will remain healthy and produce will be easier to harvest.
Tip 5: Save some money by growing plants from seeds. Yes, this process is a bit more hands on, but it’s a great way to grow your garden without breaking the bank. For those in colder climates, you can start growing the seeds indoors until it’s warm enough to move outside.
